What to eat in Singapore – Everything Truffle

Truffle fries, truffle mash, truffle chips . . it’s no secret that the truffle hype wouldn’t die anytime soon, so here’s a list of truffle food items from cafes, restaurants and hawker centres that we have tried, reviewed and our verdict!

Tanuki Raw

Cafes in Singapore | Tanuki Raw

Truffle Yakiniku Don

Price: $14.80
Pan-seared US black angus short rib, onsen egg, truffle soy sauce over Tanuki’s signature mixed rice

Pan-seared black angus short rib was unbelievably tender, coupled with the truffle-infused soy sauce… heavenly! Only shortcoming about this dish was the mixed rice. We found it a little too hard actually, perhaps would have been softer if it had been served hot. Still worth trying though, just think about tender angus beef soaked in runny egg goodness. Noms.

Kanshoku Ramen Bar

Black Truffle Edamame

Price: $4.90
This local newly-opened ramen bar has the potential to do well definitely. They do serve Truffle Ramen, but unfortunately we haven’t set our tastebuds on it yet. So for now, here’s some Black Truffle Edamame for you! It was salty and addictive, we couldn’t stop popping these into our mouths! A must try!

Bee Kee Wanton Noodle

Hawker Places in Singapore | Bee Kee Wanton Noodle

Truffle Wanton Noodles – Flame-torched Charsiew, fried and boiled wantons with truffle-infused noodles

Price: $6.00

Noodles were springy and moist, not dry like some of the wanton noodles we have tasted. Truffle taste was not that strong, just enough to know it’s there! Charsiew was really tender and melt-in-your-mouth, with the juicy wantons!

Verdict: 7.5/10

The Disgruntled Chef

Cafes in Singapore | Disgruntled Chef

Trufle Macaroni and Cheese – Crayfish, black truffles, cheddar cheese

Price: $29.00
Prices of food at Disgruntled Chef might be on the higher end, but their food quality never fails to disappoint. Other than the Truffle Macaroni and Cheese, their baby spinach salad and pasta dishes are yummilicious too. Pity they took the Snow Crab Pasta with Fresh Herbs off the menu, that was our absolute favourite.

Verdict: 8/10

Lola’s Cafe

Cafes in Singapore | Lola's Cafe

Truffle Mushroom Toast – Brioche toast, truffle cream mushroom, mozzarella cheese, onions, pickled red radish, mesclun, sunny side egg and feta crumbles

Price: $12.00

Cafes in Singapore | Lola's Cafe

Pickled red radish nicely laid on the sunny side up

It was an interesting dish, especially with the pickled radish forming delightful pink circles on the sunny side up. However, the whole dish was a tad too soft. Perhaps the brioche toast could have been more toasted so that there would be a crispy texture holding everything together. Taste was pretty decent, but we would have satisfied our taste buds more with our usual order of the Avocado Eggs Benedict.

Verdict: 6.5/10

Boufe Cafe

Cafes in Singapore | Boufe Cafe

Truffle House Avocado – Homemade sourdough topped with truffle mushroom ragout, poached egg, condense milk and avocado

Price: $18.00

Was an interesting dish. Mushrooms were juicy and truffle taste was significant enough. Condense milk and avocado formed an artistic and sweet bed of mashed-potato-like texture under the poached egg. However, we are not big fans of that.

Also, the homemade sourdough was too hard. We could hardly cut it open with the utensils, in fact, we might have possibly built some muscles by the end of the meal…

Verdict: 5/10 (Because we like the mushrooms)

Plain Vanilla Bakery

Cafes in Central Singapore | Plain Vanilla

Prosciutto & Truffle Grilled Sandwich – Prosciutto, provolone cheese, truffle butter on brioche toast

Price: $14.00

Might seem a tad on the pricey side, but the portion is actually bigger than in the picture!
Brioche toast was really soft, fluffy and chewy at the same time. Perhaps better for sharing as the amount of bread can get too overwhelming for just one person.

Verdict: 8.5/10

Montana Singapore

Truffle Egg Fettucine – Fettucine tossed in light cream sauce and mushrooms, laced with truffle oil, and topped with a glorious sunny side up

Price: $16.00

We had our mixed opinions on this dish. But unanimously, we agree this is simple comfort food for the soul. Mushrooms were juicy and fettucine, if you noticed it’s actually spaghetti in the photograph, was chewy and springy and the perfect bite.

Mon Bijou

Okay, confession time. We don’t have a picture of the Truffle Scrambled Eggs that we meant to feature here. And it could be due to the fact that the Verdict is only a 7/10 or that we were blown away by other dishes… so here’s a digression;

Cafes in Central Singapore | Mon Bijou

Crab Cake Benedict – Two Poached Eggs with Hollandaise sauce, sautéed Spinach, Homemade Hash Brown and B&W Toast

Mon Bijou | Homemade Hashbrown

Homemade Hashbrown

This, was the best hash brown we’ve tasted thus far. Thinly sliced potato strips fried to perfection with black pepper, sooooo good.

Even if Truffle Scrambled was not featured here, you HAVE to go to Mon Bijou for their Crab Cake Benedict and Hash brown in the very least!

The Refinery

Cafes in Singapore | The Refinery

Seaweed Truffle Fries – Flash fried fries, Special Nori Powder, Wasabi Mayo Dip

Price: $12.00

Was not the best fries we have tasted. Fries were rather limp and we were wondering if it’s something to do with it being “flash fried”? Nori powder reminded us of a watered down version of the McDonalds Seaweed shaker, and wasabi mayo dip was rather watery.

Verdict: 4/10

Address: 115 King George’s Avenue #01-02 Singapore 208561
